FAQ

What are the different types of car seat available?
Infant Carrier: Rear-facing seats suitable from birth, portable for use outside the car, often compatible with strollers or pram chassis for a Travel System.
Toddler Seat: Designed for children outgrowing infant carriers, can be rear- or forward-facing, and some are convertible with both installation options.
High Back Booster Seat: Elevated seats with backrests for children outgrowing toddler seats, ensuring correct seat belt positioning.
Booster Cushion: Raises the child for proper seat belt fit, lacks backrest compared to high back booster seats.
All Stages, Combination, Convertible, or Multigroup seats are versatile car seats designed to accommodate multiple stages of a child's growth. They can be adjusted to change the direction of installation, the position of the child, or the way they are secured in the seat. These seats are intended for extended use, covering various car seat types. It's important to review the specific details of each seat before making a purchase to ensure it meets your needs.
ISOFIX is a child car seat attachment system featuring anchor points in the car seating positions. Each seat has connectors that clamp onto metal bars in the vehicle. Cars manufactured generally include ISOFIX points, it's essential to verify for your vehicle.
To prevent movement, common methods include a top tether or a support leg (foot prop).
Top tether: A strap from the back of the car seat that clips onto a special point in the car, usually behind the seat back/headrest or in the boot somewhere.
Support leg (foot prop): A leg from the base of the car seat that presses on the floor of the car.
R129: R129 regulations categorize car seats based on the child's height, with an upper weight limit for ISOFIX seats. Unlike R44, there are no predefined groups, allowing manufacturers to approve seats for specific height ranges. This flexibility means seats can cover a wide range of heights, effectively functioning as Combination or All Stages seats.
I-Size: i-Size is a seat category under R129 regulations, indicating compatibility with i-Size positions in certified cars. The majority of R129 car seats fall under the i-Size designation.
R44: These are the older regulations where car seats are classified based on the child's weight. There are five pre-defined weight groups: Groups 0 & 0+ (Newborn to 13kgs), Group 1 (9kgs to 18kgs), Group 2 (15kgs to 25kgs), and Group 3 (up to 36kgs). Some seats are approved for multiple groups, making them Combination or All Stages seats, such as Groups 0+1 (Newborn to 18kgs), Groups 2,3 (15kgs to 36kgs), or Groups 0+1,2,3 (Newborn to 36kgs).
The simple answer is yes. The R129 regulation is considered safer and superior to R44. R129, also known as i-Size, introduces several improvements over the older R44/04 standard. Here are the key improvements of the R129 regulation over R44:
-Standardized side impact testing
-Stricter criteria for head injuries and abdominal pressure
-Mandatory rearward-facing travel up to 15 months
-Use of advanced Q dummies for crash testing
-Classification of seat usage based on child's height rather than weight
However, it's important to note that the effectiveness of a car seat depends on its suitability for the child and vehicle, so if an R44 seat is more appropriate, it should be used.
